Ok, is it weird that I've never picked up a real bat before? Family (or, Eriks, keeper-of-my-history-on-notecards - ne, bar napkins) correct me if my swiss-cheese memory is wrong, but I don't think I've ever even played wiffle ball. I know we had a red wiffle ball bat growing up, but I don't remember actually using it .... and, I've certainly never even held a real soft/baseball bat, much less hit with one.
Until TODAY that is.
I went to the batting cages with friendly co-worker Jeff during lunch in preparation for a possible office softball team tryout. It was a test really - can Leigh hit a ball?
Turns out - YES. A slow pitch softball at least. 15/16 after a little lesson. And, only two of those were fouls.
Funny the things that make a wonderful day. Tomorrow, fielding practice in the office lawn or parking lot. Next Thursday: softball team practice. Holy turtles!
And, to top off an already fun day, I landed a new account - a non-profit helping kids who have life threatening illnesses and their families. (A nice change from schlepping urinal cakes and toilet paper - looong story.) Plus, I got a great, great compliment. Happened upon a co-worker I don't talk with much shortly after the batting cage glory and told him about my adventure (+assorted small talk). About an hour later I got an email from him that said my smile is very infectious and that he'd been in a good mood since talking with me. Come on, does it get better than that?
Off to be randomly gleeful...
